Lab Tech

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Analyze test results, identify abnormalities, and report findings to healthcare professionals
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents
  • Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of test results, quality control, and instrument maintenance
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure laboratory standards
  • Collaborate with laboratory scientists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to resolve issues and improve laboratory operations
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies, techniques, and procedures in the field


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) by a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT)
  • 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and instrumentation
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information


Specialized Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMRs)
  • Understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, such as CLIA and CAP


Working Conditions:

  • Work in a laboratory environment with exposure to biological hazards and chemicals
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Meet productivity and quality standards
  • Work independently with minimal supervision


Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) by a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT)
