Lab Tech
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and
specialized laboratory tests, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
- Analyze test results,
identify abnormalities, and report findings to healthcare professionals
- Prepare and maintain
laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents
- Follow established
protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results
- Maintain accurate and
detailed records of test results, quality control, and instrument
maintenance
- Participate in
quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure laboratory
standards
- Collaborate with
laboratory scientists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to
resolve issues and improve laboratory operations
- Stay up-to-date with
new technologies, techniques, and procedures in the field
Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or
higher in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory
Science, or a related field
- Certification as a
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician
(CLT) by a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT)
- 1-2 years of
experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Strong knowledge of
laboratory procedures, techniques, and instrumentation
- Ability to work
accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent
communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to maintain
confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Specialized Knowledge:
- Knowledge of
laboratory safety protocols and procedures
- Familiarity with
laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMRs)
- Understanding of
quality control and quality assurance principles
- Knowledge of
regulatory requirements, such as CLIA and CAP
Working Conditions:
- Work in a laboratory
environment with exposure to biological hazards and chemicals
- Wear personal
protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Meet productivity and
quality standards
- Work independently
with minimal supervision
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Associate's degree or
higher in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a
related field
- Certification as a
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician
(CLT) by a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT)
