Dr. Apurv Shahi has earned a Ph.D. in English Literature, awarded from
Maharani Laxmi Bai Arts and Commerce College (An Autonomous Govt. College of
Excellence), Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. His doctoral research,
titled "Quest for Queer Audience Space in Contemporary Indian
Literature – Dissecting Intersectionality, Race, Gender, and Education,"
investigates the systemic marginalization and erasure of queer identities
within Indian literary discourse, with a particular emphasis on youth and children's
literature. His study interrogates how normative ideologies surrounding gender,
sexuality, race, and class are perpetuated through texts, and how literature
itself can become a critical space for resistance and re-imagining. Drawing on
the theoretical frameworks of queer theory and intersectionality, Dr. Shahi’s
research re-examines canonical and contemporary children’s literature to
uncover and disrupt the heteronormative paradigms that dominate cultural and
educational narratives. By exposing the institutional silences and
representational absences within literary traditions, his work advances a
compelling case for affirmational narratives—those that do not merely include
LGBTQ+ identities but validate their lived realities and offer platforms for
recognition, empathy, and dialogue across queer and heterosexual readerships.
